Bridal Insider: Beauty Advice Every Bride Should Know

Featuring Ruman Buttar from Art by Ruman - an artist whose bridal hair and makeup expertise turns every wedding morning into a calm, confident, and beautiful experience.

How should brides prep their skin/hair in the weeks leading up?

Consistency truly makes the biggest difference. Focus on hydration, drink plenty of water, moisturize morning and night, and avoid introducing any new products in the week leading up to your wedding. Gentle exfoliation 1–2 times a week keeps the skin smooth and helps makeup apply seamlessly. For hair, skip heavy oils, keep up with regular trims, and wash and blow-dry your hair either the night before or the morning of. Clean, dry hair styles beautifully and holds throughout the entire day. If texture is a concern, brides can also start microneedling treatments about 6 months prior to the wedding. This allows enough time for multiple sessions and full healing, giving the skin a smoother, more refined finish.

What’s the number one mistake brides make on wedding morning?

The biggest mistake is rushing. When brides feel pressed for time, it creates unnecessary stress and impacts how smoothly the glam runs. A relaxed, well-timed schedule allows your makeup and hair artist to perfect every detail without pressure, and it lets you actually enjoy the experience. Another common mistake is not eating or drinking enough. With all the excitement and nerves, many brides forget to fuel their bodies, but low energy and dehydration show on the skin!! It’s really important to stay hydrated and well fed during your wedding day.

What’s one detail that makes a huge difference but is often overlooked?

One detail brides often overlook is how important it is to prepare both their canvas and their environment. A well-nourished, soothed complexion the night before allows the glam to melt seamlessly into the skin. Just as important is the space you’re getting ready in, a clean, organized room, a spacious table, a comfortable chair, and all bridal accessories laid out for the artist. Wearing something easy to change out of, having your outfit pre-steamed, keeping the lips and under eyes hydrated, and applying skincare early enough for it to fully absorb all contribute to a calm, elevated morning. These small details make a remarkable difference in creating a flawless, long-lasting bridal finish.

What’s one thing every bride should know before booking you?

I want every bride to know that this isn’t just makeup and hair for me, it’s an experience. I take time to connect with you, understand what makes you feel beautiful, and create a look that honors who you are. Your comfort, confidence, and peace of mind matter to me just as much as the glam itself.

Worst hair or makeup emergency you've had to deal with?

I’ve dealt with everything from broken zippers and loose blouses to jewelry snapping right before photos. I’ve sewn brides into their tops, fixed accessories with pliers, re-done hair when extreme weather ruined it, and refreshed makeup when emotions ran high and tears started to take over. Weddings can be unpredictable, but I stay calm, prepared, and always find a solution so the bride never feels the stress.

What advice/tips would you like to share with future brides?

Give yourself the gift of a slow, calm morning. Stay hydrated, eat something, and keep your skincare simple and consistent. Avoid last-minute changes or new products, and trust the artist you chose. A peaceful environment makes a world of difference in how your glam looks and how you feel. Enjoy the process, enjoy the moment, and let yourself soak in the excitement of your day.
